SPCS

For a long time there has been a method available for providing precision tools, components from the aircraft industry and the medical technology, with layers which satisfy extremely high demands on smoothness and density. It was developed for industrial coating shortly after the introduction of arc technology. However, this concept of the “filtered arcs” was scarcely viable economically for many coating systems and users because of considerable costs and very long process times. With the SPCS technology developed at eifeler, coatings can now be deposited with layers which are comparable in surface quality and density with those of the filtered arc without any of its disadvantages.

The challenge was in the development of a process which leads to improved results with regard to the layer roughness with certain applications.
This SPCS technology can simply be retrofitted in almost all voestalpine eifeler-arc machines delivered to date. In-house tests and customer tests provided very good results in machining operations. Accordingly large quantities of tools are currently coated every day.

However, the “ultrafine” layers manufactured by means of SPCS technology also provide very good results in other applications:
Plastic injection molding, decorative design.

The process can be installed through simple retrofit in conventional arc-coating systems, such as the alpha 200, alpha400P and the alpha900P.
No new systems technology is necessary.
